Love Shines Bright Same Sex Engagement at Porto Pride
The vibrant streets of Porto, about to be even more alive with the colors and energy of Pride Day, and a couple whose love shines as brightly as the festivities around them; this is their story. They came all the way from Chicago and chose Porto for their unforgettable same-sex engagement photoshoot.
Exploring the City
They had never been to downtown Porto before, so we made sure to explore all the historical and picturesque spots the city has to offer. But first, we decided to start off by enjoying a drink on a terrace, both opting for an Aperol spritz. The vibrant orange color of the drinks contrasted beautifully with their silver engagement rings.
We started our journey at the iconic Ribeira, the riverbank area known for its charming, colorful buildings and lively atmosphere. The couple’s excitement was palpable as they took in the sights and sounds of this beautiful city. Their earth-toned attire blended seamlessly with the historic, unaligned rooftops and houses that define Porto’s downtown.
Crossing the Dom Luis Bridge
Next, we crossed the Dom Luis Bridge, an architectural marvel that offers stunning views of the Douro River and the cityscape. The bridge, with its majestic iron structure, served as a perfect backdrop for capturing their love.
A Mini Hike to Jardim do Morro
Our adventure didn’t stop there. We embarked on a mini hike, climbing an infinite number of stairs to reach the highest and best spot in Porto, Jardim do Morro. The sun began to set, casting a golden glow over Porto, making the effort well worth it. As we reached the top, we were greeted by a breathtaking panorama of the city, just in time for the sunset.
Porto: A Gay-Friendly Destination
Porto is very gay-friendly and has a great selection of bars, clubs, and cafés to choose from. In fact, Portugal is a very gay-friendly country overall. Portugal fulfills 66% of LGBTQ+ human rights obligations and is regarded as one of the top 10 gay-friendly countries in Europe, being placed 8th in 2020 (Rainbow Europe, 2020).
